Geometry package for ALADIN & AROME LAM (Dec 2009)

This document describes the Fortran package for the management of the “geometry” of the ALADIN & AROME LAM. This “geometry” is a projection of the earth on a plane with linked functions ensuring a smooth shift between representations.
A brief annal will recall few notions and formulae linked to used projections, followed by the general structure of the code, its constraints and its goals. The projections described here and available within the models are :

• Polar Stereographic projection,
• Conform Conical Lambert projection,
• Mercator projection,
• Mercator Rotated Tilted projection.

The conclusion will deal with the potentialities and limitations of this package and also the possible adaptation of the code to other languages.

Ce texte est la documentation du paquetage Fortran permettant la gestion de la « géométrie » des modèles à aire limitée ALADIN et AROME. Cette « géométrie » se décompose en la définition d’une projection de la sphère terrestre sur un plan et des fonctions associées assurant le passage d’une représentation à l’autre.
Après un historique de ce nouveau paquetage, nous rappellerons d’abord quelques notions et formules liées aux projections utilisées puis nous décrirons la structure générale du code, ses contraintes et ses objectifs. Les projections décrites ici et disponibles au sein des modèles ci-dessus nommés sont :

• la projection Stéréographique Polaire (en abrégé SP)
• la projection Lambert Conique Conforme (en abrégé LCC)
• la projection Mercator (en abrégé M)
• la projection Mercator Rotated Tilted (en abrégé MRT)

Nous conclurons sur les potentialités et les limitations de ce paquetage ainsi que sur l’adaptation du code à d’autres langages.
