Horizontal diffusion computations in cycle 46t1r1 of ARPEGE/IFS.
This documentation recalls some basics about horizontal diffusion schemes, and describes how they are implemented in ARPEGE/IFS and its LAM (limited area model) counterpart. The ECMWF way of implementing them (which is slightly different from the METEO-FRANCE one) is not described in detail. There is a main horizontal diffusion scheme, a sponge and a Rayleigh friction. An organigramme is provided.
CETTE DOCUMENTATION RAPPELLE QUELQUES NOTIONS SUR LES SCHEMAS DE DIFFUSION HORIZONTALE, ET DECRIT COMMENT CES SCHEMAS SONT UTILISES ET CODES DANS ARPEGE/IFS ET SA VERSION A DOMAINE LIMITE. LA VERSION DE CES CODES UTILISEE AU CEP N’EST PAS DECRITE EN DETAIL, DANS LA MESURE OU ELLE DIFFERE UN PEU DE CE QUI EST UTILISE A METEO-FRANCE. IL Y A UN SCHEMA PRINCIPAL DE DIFFUSION HORIZONTALE, UNE EPONGE ET UNE FRICTION DE RAYLEIGH.
