PhD for ACCORD collaborator Michiel Van Ginderachter
On 5 June 2023, our ACCORD colleague Michiel Van Ginderachter obtained his PhD at Ghent university, Belgium. The title of his dissertation is A model-error based sampling method for stochastic tendencies in ensemble predictions.

In his thesis he introduced a new technique to study model errors in ALARO and he applied this for the development of perturbations in ensemble prediction systems. The new methodology combines knowledge of 3MT deep convection scheme with stochastic model perturbations. The method was tested over the Indian Ocean en was used to study the Madden-Julian Oscillation.
