  A strategy meeting was held in Bruxelles, on September 27-29, 2011 with the main goal to prepare an update of the 10-year ALADIN strategy document (2008-2017) to be presented to PAC (then to GA). • 3rd Working day of the SRNWP Expert Team on Surface Processes, 5 September 2011, ECMWF, Reading (U.K.)

  The third meeting of the Expert Team on surface processes took place one day before the ECMWF Annual Seminar and was kindly hosted at ECMWF thanks to Patricia de Rosnay and Gianpaolo Balsamo. Each consortium had at least one representative. This has allowed a rather comprehensive review of the activities among Europe.   Foreword NEWSLETTER, 2011 Newsletter 40 is issued in the late summer, early autumn 2011. This is a period where a good deal, but not yet all, of the yearly work-plan actions has been fulfilled. • EMS award for Jean-François Geleyn

  Jean-François Geleyn received on Wednesday 14 September 2011 the EMS Silver Medal for his outstanding contributions to the fostering of cooperation among scientists in European countries. This led to the development of the ALADIN consortium, the start of the merger between the ALADIN and the HIRLAM consortium and a productive scientific interaction within the SRNWP program with the other European consortia.   This new aladin website has been developed with SPIP , a publishing system for the Internet. SPIP consists of a bundle of files allowing to take advantage of a number of automated tasks: multi-user management, laying out articles without the need to use HTML, easily modifying the structure of the site.
