 Research themes

The main research activity of the "Sounding" team of CEMS is fast radiative transfer modelization in thermal infrared for satellite data assimilation in NWP models. Futhermore the team develop the preprocessing software for local acquisition from Level 0 to Level 1C of hyperspectral infrared sounders (IASI or CrIS) and the cloud information obtained from imagers (AVHRR and VIIRS) inside sounder’s footprint.

 Current projects, programs

• Preparation to space program EPS-SG et MTG of Eumetsat.
• Numerical Weather Prediction SAF: Scientific development of RTTOV (Saunders et al., 2018) model, scientific development of AAPP preprocessing software.
• C3S "Satellite data rescue": Scientific development of RTTOV for early infrared satellite instruments (from 1970’s to 1990’s) to preprare then next ECMWF reanalysis ERA-6.
• EECLAT (TOSCA/CNES): Validation of cloud and aerosol RTTOV parameterization with the A-Train instruments.
• IASI (TOSCA/CNES): Intercomparaison between RTTOV and 4A-OP in collaboration with LMD.
• FORUM (ESA Earth Explorer 9): Scientific development of RTTOV to the far infrared in collaboration with LOA.
