1. ALADIN and ALATNET on the Web

These informations (and many many others ...) are available on the ALADIN usual server: http://www.cnrm.meteo.fr/aladin/

and on the ALATNET web server : http://www.cnrm.meteo.fr/alatnet/

A renewal of the ALADIN web site was performed during the autumn 2000 (many thanks to Method Kozelj). Your access to one of the numerous documents of the site should be now much more easy thanks to the site map and the search engine Method added to the site.

2. Toulouse visitors : some administrative changes

Most of the Toulouse visitors rent a room in the "Résidence" of the French Meteorological School (ENM). A new team is now in charge of the residence management. New rules have been defined for all residence users. After discussion with this team, a simplified procedure has been accepted .

The key of your room will be available in GMAP a few days before your arrival,
The GMAP person who will welcome you (at the airport or the station) will give you the usual envelope with access cards, key of your office, papers, ... and the key of your room in the residence.
In case you arrive by your own:
- during working hours, please go to GMAP offices and ask for your key,
- out of working hours, the person at the main entrance will give you, exceptionally, the envelope (please note that the caretakers of the residence have no longer any key). Of course, this is only possible if somebody in GMAP gave him the envelope ... thus, if we know the exact date of your arrival !..
In order to avoid unnecessary paperwork, the form untitled : "Fiche de Gestion des Etrangers" is now also used by the residence management. It is the only paper you will be asked to fill up at your arrival but it should be filled very quickly and faxed to this team on the first working day after your arrival.

Last minute !!!! Rules are likely to change again... maybe to become something like the former ones !!! Anyway, please just tell us your exact date/time of arrival and we will solve the key problem.

3. Toulouse visitors : 2001 stays

The organization of the stays in Toulouse for the first 6 months of 2001 was even more complicated than previously, due to so many events in 2001 (see "Announcements") with the more usual constraints for the MAE stays (see "Money").

A compromise was obtained after many e-mails and phone calls. The result, i.e. the provisional planning of the stays (as far as we know it when preparing this Newsletter) is indicated below in the table. Updated versions of this table are quasi-weekly (!) produced and can be found on the page "Contact", under "ALADIN visitors in Toulouse" ( planning, offices ).

If you are one of the announced visitors, please check everything is OK for you or contact Patricia Pottier to change/complete the planning. If you plan to come in Toulouse during these months and if you cannot find any office indicated for you, please do protest also.

4. Toulouse visitors : what about "euro" ?

An operational switch to euro money is planned for the beginning of 2002 ... with far little chance of being delayed than an ALADIN cycle !.

From mid-February 2002, French money (as most of the other E.U. money) could no longer be used. Some of you went to Toulouse and may be have kept some French money. If this money is on a bank or post account, no problem: it will be automatically changed into euros.

But, if you have kept franc notes, you have 3 solutions :

to come in France before February 2002 and change the notes,
to give it to one of your colleague who will go to France before the deadline,
to keep the notes as "souvenirs" ...

After the deadline, it will be still possible to change the notes but only in Banque de France. Thus, try to find a solution before ! "NO CHANGE" in GMAP !...

5. First ALADIN "trombinoscope"

A rogues' gallery was produced by Jean-Daniel Gril with photos mainly taken during and after EWGLAM. If you don't find yours, please send a numerical or paper (scanned then returned) photo to him and you will appear on the new "trombinoscope".

6. Public ftp

As propsed last December without any negative reaction, the public ftp is no longer use to exchange files which are also on the website. It can be used for selective exchanges.

8. Remote access to Météo-France machines

Many of you have a remote access to Météo-France machines. Autorizations for these access must be renewed yearly. Eric Escalière (eric.escaliere++at++meteo.fr ) is your only contact point for these access.
