Memorandum of Understanding

On the 27th of November 2020 during the 7th joint ALADIN Assembly & HIRLAM Council, 25 among the 26 NMS Members of the ALADIN, LACE and HIRLAM consortia signed the ACCORD Memorandum of Understanding and AEMET signed in July 2021.

In December 2025, for the 11th ACCORD Assembly 25 among the 26 NMSH Members of ACCORD signed the MoU2 for the second phase of ACCORD (2026-2030) and AEMET is expected to sign beginning of 2026.

Licenses

In 2021, the Assembly approved updated texts for the research and licensing licenses (Annexes IX and X of the MoU): see the pdf version and the text version of these licenses.

In its previous meeting of 9 October 2025, the ACCORD Assembly approved the accessibility of the NWP codes (including AROME for instance) for external use in the context of scientific publications and their reviewing process. This accessibility will increase the possibilities to publish results in journals which require that the codes used to produce the results are made available to the reviewers. Two specific tailor-made license templates have been agreed and are available:
License template valid until end of 2025.
License template valid from January 2026.

The text of the template will have to be adapted to each specific publication and peer-reviewing process during a (hopefully simple) negotiation with the journal of interest.

A summary of the governance, bodies and positions is proposed here.
