Doctorat ès Sciences en 1996 et Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches en 2002 à l’université de Toulouse. Ingénieur des Ponts, des Eaux et des Forêts. Responsable d’une équipe de recherche en télédétection et en modélisation des surfaces continentales du CNRM (Météo-France, CNRS). Agronome, météorologiste, il a contribué au développement de l’utilisation de techniques de radiométrie micro-ondes pour le suivi de l’humidité des sols, à l’assimilation de données satellitaires dans les modèles des surfaces continentales, et à la modélisation du cycle du carbone dans les modèles de climat.

Modélisation du cycle continental du carbone : développement des modèles ISBA-A-gs et ISBA-CC, utilisés dans la plateforme de modélisation SURFEX de Météo-France, et élaborés en collaboration avec, au niveau national l’INRA et le LSCE, au niveau international le CEPMMT.

Impact du changement climatique sur la végétation à méso-échelle.

Hydrologie spatiale : contribution au développement de la télédétection micro-ondes, avec en particulier une implication forte dans la mission spatiale SMOS (en collaboration avec INRA, CESBIO, LATMOS) lancée en novembre 2009, et dans le développement de l’utilisation des produits d’humidité du sol ASCAT (en collaboration avec l’Université de Vienne, le CNES, EUMETSAT), qui sont désormais assimilés par plusieurs services météorologiques en Europe. Développement d’un réseau de mesure de l’humidité du sol dans le sud de la France (SMOSMANIA).

Assimilation de données de télédétection dans les modèles des surfaces continentales afin d’améliorer le suivi des sécheresses et des flux de carbone, d’améliorer les modèles de prévision numérique du temps, et construire des réanalyses des surfaces continentales.

Contrôle qualité des variables climatiques terrestres issues de données satellitaires.
