Money Funding asked for some cooperations based on the ALADIN project

1. French "Ministère des Affaires Etrangères" support (MAE)

All the stays on 2000 support have to be completed before the end of June 2001 and are mostly already planned.

As a justification for 2001 demands, the Ministère des Affaires Etrangères asked for a report on the 10 last years of cooperation (progress, benefits for each part), for the partners benefiting from this support. Dominique Giard did the compilation of the personalized and detailed inputs about the history of ALADIN in each ALADIN country. This exceptionally good documenting effort surely helped Francois Duvernet and Sylvie Rivals to defend our ALADIN case at the Ministry (in not so easy circumstances) by convincing the COCOP of the seriousness of our activity. The COCOP of our Ministry of Foreign Affairs fully validated the demand for "soutien au programme de cooperation de Météo-France avec l'Europe Centrale et Orientale".

The demand to the embassies for the support to non-ECO countries in 2001 are being examined.

More details can be asked to Sylvie Rivals (Météo-France/D2I/INT, sylvie.rivals++at++meteo.f).

2. Bilateral supporting grants

AAMADEUS, BALATON, BARRANDE, PROTEUS are bilateral programs who can support short visits for both sides.

The 2000 exchanges (BALATON, BARRANDE) have been completed during autumn 2000.

For the first time, ALADIN will benefit of an AMADEUS program. It will focus on the improvement of the description of precipitations on mountain areas (parametrization, analysis, verification).

The former programs (BALATON, BARRANDE and PROTEUS) won't continue in 2001 (no new demand or demands refused).

More details can be asked to Dominique Giard (dominique.giard++at++meteo.fr).

3. Météo-France support for maintenance, ...

he Météo-France support to the maintenance of ALADIN in 2001 will be distributed among 20 stays and 30 person.month. It is a little less than in 2000 as it will support only 2 phasing exercises with 8 persons invited each time, and some additional stays (part of maintenance is expected to be deported from this year).

4. ALATNET funding

This money is to be mainly used for young researchers employment in the 5 ALATNET centers (salaries or grants, social charges, relocation costs, travel costs). A smaller part will be dedicated to the Networking of the research work associated with ALATNET. All details can be found in the ALATNET contract and its Annex 2.
