Announcements : 2001 = a promising year !

Y2K was rich in ALADIN/ALATNET events. The next year will be ... not the same ... but even more !..

Here is a provisional calendar for the only first six months of 2001 :

1. Next ALATNET events

a) ALATNET young researchers

A second call for candidacies was published on December 26, 2000 for the selection of two new candidates : two post-doctoral vacancies are offered to young researchers, one in Brussels (19 months) and one in Budapest (16 months).

A third call will be published in spring 2001 (pre- and post-doctoral positions in the five ALATNET centers).

b) ALATNET Training Course

The next ALATNET training course will be held in Gourdon (near Toulouse, Fr) on 11-22 June 2001.

Its mains topic will be data assimilation.

c) 2nd meeting of the Steering Committee of ALATNET, Brussels (F), 19 March 2001

2. Next ALADIN workshops/meetings

a) 10 years ALADIN anniversary

On May 31st, 2001, the 10 years ALADIN anniversay will be officially celebrated (directors, embassies, ... A working group is preparing all details (invitations, programme, nice booklet of the project, ...). Also on May 31st, the new MoU should be signed.

a) The 10th ALADIN Workshop

The 10th ALADIN workshop, dedicated to scientific coordination, will be held in Toulouse (France) next spring. It will be organized just before the next ALATNET training course, as an attempt to reduce travel costs and thus enable a contribution of more partners.

b) The 11th ALADIN workshop

The 11th ALADIN Workshop on "Recent and planned operational exploitation of ALADIN model" will take place in Lisbonn, Portugal in autumn 2001.

3. Other next events

a) 23rd EWGLAM & 8th SRNWP joined meetings

The meetings will take place in Cracow, Poland, on October 8-12, 2001, with the usual ALADIN informal meeting to be planned as an evening session.
