Potential Societal Impacts
- Internal Met Services End Users
A delivery system will be developed by Météo-France to provide to the forecasters the real-time forecasts that would eventually be produced by the partners. The models’ and eventually nowcasting systems outputs will be gathered on a server at Météo-France, and the pertinent model outputs will be displayed on an interactive website.
- Olympic Games End Users
Indices specifically built for the Olympics will be provided to the various end users (in a similar way that was done during the Pan American games in 2015), in collaboration with the Olympics committee, and the safety and health organizations. The research linked to indices meeting the requirements of these end users are included within the RDP research topics (5th research question).
- Long-term societal impacts
The research performed within this RDP will impact the society by rapid international advances on urban weather forecasting skills and pertinence (in regards to the needs of the end users and inhabitants). The developments on urban database (e.g. from open urban database) and hectometric urbanized atmospheric models and nowcasting systems tested on Paris and Marseille agglomerations will be transposable to other cities. This is of particular interest for WMO, due to the increasing number of urban people throughout the world.
